Dickenson County Public Schools bus drivers are often the first and last smiling faces our students see each day. They navigate winding roads, changing weather, and early morning routes with professionalism, patience, and care. Their dedication ensures that our students arrive safely, ready to learn, and return home to their families each afternoon.

Behind the wheel, our drivers do far more than drive—they greet each child with kindness, watch over them like family, and help set the tone for a positive school day. Their vigilance and commitment to safety make them true heroes on wheels.

As we celebrate National School Bus Safety Week, we also remind our community to stay alert around school buses, obey all traffic laws, and help us keep every student safe.

To our bus drivers—thank you for your steady hands, big hearts, and daily dedication to the students of Dickenson County. You truly keep our schools moving.

At the 2025 Awards Banquet and Gala sponsored by the Appalachian Council for Innovation on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Dickenson County Public Schools and Ridgeview High School's CTE Staff received the first Innovation Award from John Bebber, Executive Director at the Appalachian Council for Innovation.

During Tuesday's Gala, Mr. Bebber introduced the award with these words;

"Our First Innovation Award Winner is being recognized for being an inspiration and taking a risk before anyone else in the region. Truly the definition of being a pioneer and an INNOVATOR in the realm of education, this award winner jumped headfirst into the simulated workplace model, putting emphasis on project-based and student -led learning. They are creating and running actual businesses from the classroom and developing the skills necessary to be successful in today's workforce.

By being the first school system in the region to have the courage to step out and try something new, these folks paved the way and made it easier for other school systems to see that change isn't always bad and that the Simulated Workplace model really works.

It is my pleasure to present the first Innovation Award of the night to Dickenson County Public Schools. Would all those in attendance from Dickenson County Schools (students, teachers, and administrators) please come forward and join us on stage to accept your award?"

Nicole Sutherland, Culinary Instructor, and her Sweet Rose Catering students provided the delicious desserts for the Gala, and were present to receive the award on behalf of the CTE Staff!

Again, congratulations on a job well done!
