Dear Students, Parents, Guardians, Families,
Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year!
There is something special about the beginning of a new school year. The hallways come alive again. Classrooms are filled with energy and anticipation. Teachers prepare to inspire. Families set new goals. And our students walk through the doors carrying dreams, hopes, questions, and possibilities.
A new school year is a reminder that every day is a new opportunity to learn, to grow, and to become the very best version of ourselves.
To our students, I want you to know how excited we are to welcome you back. This year, I challenge you to believe in yourself and to believe that you are capable of more than you may realize. Set goals that stretch you. Work hard when things become difficult. Ask for help when you need it. Be willing to try, even when you are not certain you will succeed.
And remember this: A mistake is not failure. Giving up is.
You will have days when things come easily and days when they do not. On those difficult days, keep going. Your teachers, principals, counselors, coaches, and staff members are here to encourage you, challenge you, and help you find your path to success.
Most importantly, know that you belong. You matter. You are valued. You are an important part of our school family.
To our parents, guardians, and families, thank you for the trust you place in Dickenson County Public Schools. We recognize that education is a partnership. The work we do together—school, home, and community—has a lasting impact on the lives of our children.
Your encouragement matters. Your involvement matters. Your words matter. When you ask your child about their day, read with them, encourage them to attend school every day, celebrate their progress, and remind them that education opens doors. You are helping build the foundation for their future.
As a school division, we will continue to hold high expectations for every student while providing the support needed to help them meet those expectations. We will continue to focus on the safety of each child, academic excellence, strong relationships, meaningful opportunities, student safety, character, and preparing our young people for a future filled with possibilities.
But our greatest work is not simply preparing students for the next grade level.
Our greatest work is preparing them for life.
We want our students to leave Dickenson County Public Schools knowing how to think, communicate, solve problems, work with others, persevere through challenges, and make a positive difference in the world around them.
As we begin this school year, I ask each of us to embrace three simple commitments:
Believe. Believe in our students and their potential.
Belong. Make every student feel seen, valued, respected, and supported.
Become. Commit ourselves each day to becoming better learners, educators, parents, leaders, and citizens.
We may not know everything this school year will bring. There will be challenges, but there will also be countless opportunities. There will be hard days, but there will be moments of accomplishment, laughter, discovery, and pride that make all the hard work worthwhile.
And when we work together—with high expectations, great teaching, strong families, caring relationships, and an unwavering belief in our children—there is no limit to what our students can accomplish.
I am incredibly proud to serve as your superintendent, and I am grateful for the opportunity to begin another school year alongside our students, families, educators, and community.
Let's make 2026–2027 a year of purpose.
A year of possibility.
A year of perseverance.
A year of achievement.
And, most importantly, a year in which every child knows they are capable of greatness.
